Nature of work
Reporting directly to the ground’s supervisor in the physical plant, this position is a valued member of the grounds crew and primarily is involved and responsible for working all phases of overall grounds upkeep and grounds maintenance on the HRRJ campus. Tasks include, but are not limited to lawn, shrub and tree care as well as parking lots and sidewalk clearance and maintenance practices for the Hampton Roads Regional Jail Authority.

Master Control functions as the eyes and ears of the facility. The Master Control Operator has considerable responsibility for maintaining perimeter security, controlling movement within the facility, monitoring life-safety systems, and maintaining key control. Much of the Master Control Operators’ time is devoted to the door control function: acknowledging door control intercom calls, making positive identification of the person requesting doors be opened, and opening doors. Master control is responsible for monitoring cameras, coordinating communication between units, and maintaining equipment and security in the armory. Also for securing the riot equipment room.
