The Hampton Roads Regional Jail gives back to the communities we serve by volunteering for the annual “Day Of Caring” event.
With our talented lineup of BBQ Pit Masters, the Hampton Roads Regional Jail knows how to say thanks to the many employess who are dedicated to serving the community.

The mission of the Hampton Roads Regional Jail is to protect the public and institutional safety through the incarceration of offenders in a facility that meets statutory and constitutional standards of care and provides program opportunities.
Established in 1998, the Hampton Roads Regional Jail proudly serves the cities of Chesapeake, Hampton, Newport News, Norfolk and Portsmouth, Virginia by operating the facility in accordance with the collective best interests of the five participating jurisdictions. The facility is operated under the direction of the Hampton Roads Regional Jail Authority which is comprised of the sheriffs, city managers and city council members representing their perspective jurisdictions.

The primary function
of the facility is to house both male and female inmates from the five participating jurisdictions including: pretrial, sentenced and inmates requiring special management.

CERTIFICATIONS
The Hampton Roads Regional Jail obtained certification by the Virginia Department of Corrections (VDOC) in May, 1999. The jail is audited by VDOC annually on life, health and safety (LHS) standards; and is audited on all VDOC standards tri-annually.

VOLUNTEERS
The Hampton Roads Regional Jail is a proud member of the Virginia Association of Regional Jails, showing huge support by attending the annual VARJ conference.
Every year the officers of the Hampton Roads Regional Jail give back to the community by volunteering for the annual “Day Of Caring”.
MORALE
The Hampton Roads Regional Jail softball team a.k.a “Law Dogs” have competed in national law enforcement softball tournaments. The Law Dogs are renowned for boosting morale, building inter-agency camaraderie and spreading the HRRJ championship spirit.
