Welcome to the Hampton Roads Regional Jail Website!
Established in 1998, the Hampton Roads Regional Jail proudly serves the cities of Chesapeake, Hampton, Portsmouth, Newport News and Norfolk, Virginia by operating the facility in accordance with the collective best interests of the five participating jurisdictions. The facility is operated under the direction of the Hampton Roads Regional Jail Authority which is comprised of the sheriffs, city managers and city counsel members representing their perspective jurisdictions.
The primary function of the facility is to house both male and female inmates from the five participating jurisdictions including: pretrial, sentenced and inmates requiring special management.
The mission of the Hampton Roads Regional Jail is to protect the public and institutional safety through the incarceration of offenders in a facility that meets statutory and constitutional standards of care and provides program opportunities.

Every year the officers of the Hampton Roads Regional Jail give back to the community by volunteering for the annual “Day Of Caring”.
The Hampton Roads Regional Jail softball team a.k.a “Law Dogs” have competed in national law enforcement softball tournaments. The Law Dogs are renowned for boosting morale, building inter-agency camaraderie and spreading the HRRJ championship spirit.
