The Hampton Roads Regional Jail offers career opportunities as Jail Officers.  Ideal candidates must maintain the highest standards of professionalism, sound moral character and unimpeachable conduct while on and off duty.

Jail Officers are primarily responsible for the supervision of inmates within their assigned areas.  Jail Officers play an integral role in the daily operations of the facility and must communicate effectively.  The Hampton Roads Regional Jail houses a diverse inmate population from various ethnic, racial, cultural and economic backgrounds .  Jail Officers enjoy a flexible work schedule with paid time off, premier medical benefits and participation in the Virginia Retirement System with the LEOS supplement.

Jail Officer Requirements

  • Citizen of the United States
  • 18 years of age
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid Drivers License
  • Social Security Card
  • Birth Certificate
  • Good Health and Physically Fit for Duty
  • Meet Minimum Requirements on Comprehensive Background Investigation
  • Drug Free
